I am affectionately referred to in some quarters as 'The Top Hat Man Of Old London Town' but am better known in the world of horseracing as David Yates - 'Newsboy', the Daily Mirror's racing correspondent - and through my broadcast work with Racing TV and the Nick Luck Daily podcast.
My career on the racecourse spans over three decades, and it was during the afternoons spent working at Epsom and Royal Ascot that my fascination with the top hat first began. Their elegance, yet hardiness, and their provenance - the tales they could tell - fired my imagination.
I purchased a top hat of my own and had it refurbished by a Master Hatter. The final result drew such positive feedback - so many compliments - that I set to sourcing antique top hats, from the United Kingdom, Europe and beyond, to provide the same service for others.
And so Silk Toppers was born.
