What can I expect to pay for a silk top hat?
The price of a top hat is dictated by its scarcity value.
The human head has grown over the past century so, as a general rule, the larger the size, the rarer the hat. Similarly, some styles of hat - for example, an exceptionally tall (and rare) 'bell-crown' shape of hat - will cost more.
As of spring 2024, a fully refurbished size 7 (57cm inner circumference) hat with an average (5¾-inch) crown costs £2,000, with the 'standard' sizes going up in £500 increments: a 7â…› (58cm) costs £2,500, a 7¼ (59cm) costs £3,000 and a 7â…œ (60cm) costs £3,500.
Beyond the standard, the largest, and rarest, sizes are priced individually.
Do you have premises for clients to visit?
No. The hats are kept at our home. With no expensive shop premises to maintain, we are able to sell top hats for significantly less than the London shops. We bring the hats to you.
Can I hire a top hat from Silk Toppers?
We do not currently offer a rental service.
How should I store my top hat?
Top hats are remarkably durable items and, looked after with care, will last a lifetime. All Silk Toppers hats are supplied in custom-made boxes and the hat should be stored in a dry, dark place. If it gets wet during a day at the races, let the hat dry naturally before returning it to its box. Each top hat is supplied with a velvet polishing 'mouse' to keep the silk pristine and maintain its lustre.
